Is it Your First Time?
Here’s what you’ll need for your first ski or snowboard trip…

1. Learning package:
2. Proper clothing
3. A car prepared for winter mountain driving.

The Learning package includes the following: Beginner Area ticket, a ski or snowboard lesson, and ski or snowboard equipment Lessons are at 10:00 AM, 12:00 noon, and 2:00 PM.
You should arrive at the school meeting place a few minutes early for assignment to a class.
Private lessons are available by appointment. Please inquire at the ski school office.
You should arrive early to allow time for the rental line.

At Mt Baldy the ticket office and rest rooms are the only facilities at the parking lot level. You will ride the first chair to the main part of the ski area, where you will find the rental equipment, lessons, rest rooms, restaurant, basket check, first aid, and the beginner, intermediate and advanced skiing. Most people will ride the chair back down to the parking lot at the end of the day.
Tickets for non-skiers are available to purchase for Chair #1 only, which is a scenic ride available year around.

Clothing Checklist

  • Ski Pants or Bib Pants (or jeans with Scotch guard) You should attach you area ticket to your pants
so you will have it even when you take off your jacket.

  • Jacket

  • Long-sleeve layers under jacket (if you have several layers it is easier to adjust for a warm or cold day)

  • Thermal underwear

  • Socks - smooth-fitting socks (boots must fit snugly and socks should not wrinkle)

  • Gloves Warm (extra, light-weight gloves are nice if it is going to be a warm day)

  • Hat Warm (This is the easiest item to add if you are cold or take off if it is a warm day)

  • Sun Glasses (Just like your skin, your eyes need protection) In stormy weather goggles are better.

  • Sunscreen (It is easier to get a sunburn at high altitude and with light reflected from the snow)

  • Wrist protectors - Some snowboarders use wrist protectors (you might have these from skateboarding
    or rollerblading).

  • Helmet Optional (bike helmet will do, a snow sport helmet is better)

  • Dry clothing for the end of the day (Basket check available.)

You might want dry clothing for after skiing. You could leave this in your car. The chair ride first thing in the morning can be cold even when the rest of the day is pleasant. A basket check is available in the Notch Restaurant for storage of extra clothing and personal belongings.

Your Car should be ready for winter mountain driving.
Tire chains may be required to get to Mt. Baldy. Even if you did not use chains to get to Mt Baldy, a storm can come in and require chains to get home. You should always carry tire chains when traveling in the winter in the mountains. In stormy weather a shovel can help you. You may purchase chains at a local automotive store near you. There are no gas stations on the road to Mt Baldy. You should make sure you have plenty of gas.
